Medtronic's (NYSE: MDT) new nerve stimulating implant has failed to meet its study goal.
The device is currently used to treat various movement disorders. Medtronic has sought FDA approval for the use of implant for treating epilepsy. In a document, FDA has said that the implant failed to ensure reduction in the incidents of seizures.
One patient included in the study showed increase in seizures after the use of the implant. Currently, epilepsy is treated by the use of medication, or through surgery.
Another medical device maker Cyberonics, Inc. (NASDAQ : CYBX) is also in the market with a nerve stimulator device
